ONE Truth

Have you ever heard someone say “well, this is MY TRUTH?”. This on-going trend on social media that people have used to convey their own perspective and experience. But is it the whole truth? The actual truth? Or just their side of the story.

Here, you’ll only find one truth. The ONLY truth.

People have for centuries tried to alter, add to or put their own individualized spin on what the gospel is and how you receive it. Whether it be for political gain, controlling of others or to add ways of self-assurance to the mix, people have consistently tried to find their own truth in the gospel. However, the scriptures are clear; nothing can be added or taken away from the TRUE gospel. So why do we continue to add to it?

Since the beginning of time, when Adam and Eve first ate the apple in the garden and sin entered the world, humans have been trying to make their way back to God. They even attempted to build a tower to reach heaven, which obviously didn’t work out for them. In our quest to make our way back to God, we have attempted to create our own paths through works and good deeds. We seek to perform for him in the hopes that what we present to him will be sufficient to enter into his kingdom. So we add our own narrative to salvation to provide ourselves with assurance of obtaining salvation. There is only one problem; sin still exists.

Sin has made it impossible for us to enter into the kingdom. Our flesh is dead and only life can enter into the presence of God. Regardless of how hard we work or try to enter kingdom, we cannot change the reality of our sinful flesh. The only way to bridge the gap between death and life is through the atonement and sacrifice made by Jesus Christ on the cross. Through his death he paid the price for sin. From his sinless life, Jesus was the perfect sacrifice. On the third day, he rose from the dead and was made new; he conquered death and was made alive again. Through this, he paid the price for sin and bridged the gap so that all who may believe in him and his sacrifice and resurrection may also have life again.

Truth. Period.

I have heard many iterations of the gospel. “Give your life to Christ”, “make him Lord”, “surrender everything”, “repent of your sins and be saved”. None of these will save you. There is nothing you can offer to God as nothing we have is pleasing to him in our sinful nature. The grace of God is big enough to cover us if we simply believe in what was accomplished for us through the cross. Receive the gift given to us by God through his son. In him we are made new and are seen as perfect, able to enter into rest with him.

Amazing news. Grace and love abounding for us. We simply have to have the faith to believe.
